The Black Backdrop Set.
One chair, one voice, one clean black frame. Built for solo episodes, monologues, founder updates, and talking-head video, with an engineer running the cameras while you talk.
The Black Backdrop Set is our solo and talking-head setup at 50 Francisco St, 3rd Floor: a single chair on a seamless black drape, lit for a clean cinematic look, with two 4K cameras switched live by your engineer. It rents for $450 per hour with a 1-hour minimum, engineer included, and you leave the same day with raw 4K and clean audio on your drive. Choose full color or a black and white grade, and switch to the textured wall look in the same booking.
What it is for
One person, straight to camera, with a clear frame.
Most of what founders, coaches, and executives publish is one person talking: a weekly update, a point of view on LinkedIn, an intro for a course, a short answer to a hard question. The black backdrop puts all of the attention on the person and the idea. The frame stays empty behind you, so the viewer reads you.
The set records the same way every session, so a series holds together. Sit in the same chair in week one and week forty, and the frame, light, and sound match. Your engineer handles the cameras, the mic, and the teleprompter if you want one, and cuts between the wide shot and the close-up while you speak.
How it is built
A chair, a drape, and three lights.
Black drapes wrap the corner, a black floor kills the bounce, and a soft key with a rim light lifts you off the background. The wood and cream chair is the only color in the frame, so skin tones and eyes carry the shot.
- Seamless black drape and floor, edge to edge
- Soft key light, rim light, and a fill on the far side
- Wide shot plus a tight close-up, both in 4K
- Shure broadcast mic on a boom, out of frame
- Teleprompter on the lens on request
Pick your look
Four looks, one booking.
Tell your engineer the look when you book, or change it between takes. The black backdrop runs in full color or a black and white grade. The textured wall on the podcast set lights in violet or teal. Every look records in 4K with the same engineer and the same flat rate.
Who books it
Made for the one-voice formats.
Record a month of LinkedIn and YouTube updates in one hour. Same chair, same light, every week.
A clean, serious frame for thought leadership pieces, keynote teasers, and investor letters on camera.
Course intros, module openers, and sales videos that sit apart from the lesson footage.
Customer stories and team interviews with one person on camera and a producer asking questions off frame.
How a session runs
Sit down, talk, leave with the files.
Book and pick a look
Choose the black backdrop in color or black and white, or the textured wall. Send a script if you want the teleprompter loaded.
Record
The set is lit and mic checked before you arrive. Your engineer frames both cameras and switches them live while you talk.
Take everything home
Raw 4K and clean audio on your drive the same day. Add editing and your clips arrive cut, graded, and captioned.

What is the black backdrop set best for?+
One person talking to camera: solo podcast episodes, founder and executive updates, course intros, testimonials, and short social videos. The plain black frame keeps every eye on the speaker and matches from session to session.
Can I record in black and white?+
Yes. Tell your engineer before the session and the cameras are set for a black and white grade. You also receive the color files, so both versions are yours.
Can two people use the black backdrop?+
Yes. A second chair fits in the frame for a two-person conversation or an interview. For a host and two guests, the round-table podcast set is the better fit.
Can I use a teleprompter on this set?+
Yes. Send your script ahead of time and your engineer loads it into a teleprompter mounted on the lens, then runs the scroll at your pace during the take.
How much does the black backdrop set cost?+
$450 per hour with a 1-hour minimum. That includes your engineer, two 4K cameras switched live, a Shure broadcast mic, lighting, the teleprompter if you want it, and raw files on your drive the same day.
Can I switch to the textured wall look in the same session?+
Yes. The textured wall on the podcast set lights in violet or teal, and moving between looks takes a few minutes. Book the time you need and tell your engineer the plan when you arrive.
